If plants are deficient in iron, then they must act quickly. We will tell you here how to use iron fertilizer correctly and how to save your plants.

Iron fertilizer is usually extremely toxic

An iron deficiency is clearly noticeable in plants when green leaves actually turn yellow, sometimes even light yellow, but the leaf veins themselves remain green. Then it is high time to compensate for this deficiency with a special iron fertilizer from specialist dealers.

We will now tell you what you need to consider when using iron fertilizer and how to use it properly. First of all: Due to its toxic components, iron fertilizer must always be kept safe from small children!

Iron fertilizer is toxic!

Iron fertilizer is usually extremely toxic, which is why you should absolutely avoid direct contact with the fertilizer and for this reason you should wear adequate protective clothing when using it. The reason for this is the iron II sulfate (sulfur-iron compound) contained in the iron fertilizer.

Those who do not trust themselves to apply the iron fertilizer should rather look after a specialized specialist company with this task.

Furthermore, you should not spill iron fertilizer on patios, paving stones, in buckets, etc. This can cause ugly stains that can usually not be removed.

Use iron fertilizer correctly - that's how it's done

»Use with individual plants:

If you have found an iron deficiency in a plant (often occurs in petunias), the iron fertilizer can help remedy the dose. However, it is imperative that you follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding use and dosage. Otherwise there is nothing else to consider when fertilizing plants.

»Use on lawns:

However, you can also work on large lawns where iron deficiency is clearly visible with an iron fertilizer. The best time for this is spring, so that the lawn can optimally relax throughout the season.

Iron deficiency in the lawn is due to the nature of the soil. In such cases, it is advisable to have a soil sample examined in a specialized laboratory.

However, iron fertilizer is not only used when there is an iron deficiency, but also when there is a lot of moss on lawns. The damp moss surface is destroyed by the iron fertilizer. i.e. it dies (moss turns brown to black). You can then easily remove the moss with a rake.

How to use iron fertilizer correctly on the lawn:

The application is ideally carried out in early spring so that the lawn can then be landscaped again. However, you should mow the lawn freshly (about 1 week beforehand) so that you can water the mossy area directly with the iron fertilizer / irrigation water mixture. Alternatively, you can also use an iron sulfate granulate, which you only need to spread evenly over the mossy lawn.

Regardless of which variant you choose: afterwards you may not enter the processed area for about 1 to 2 weeks. You must also keep your pets away from the lawn, otherwise there is a risk of poisoning!
